It may be that from time to time your employers pension providers will do advisory sessions (really a way for them to sell the benefits of AVCs). Check with HR if your authority has any sessions planned.

You really need to take advice - does your employer have a pension officer ? I depends on your previous salary, you new salary, how long you worked and your current age

We're in agreement that not all are created equal, and that OP should do their homework to find one who comes with recommendation.

Care to expand on that? what was the advice and in what way was it the worst?

We're in agreement that not all are created equal, and that OP should do their homework to find one who comes with recommendation.

I've only ever used Fee-Based IFA - investing through an IFA on a commission basis is prone to conflicts of interest.

+1 for trying to get advice through your employer. Alternatively, do you belong to a trade union? Can they advise?

You should have an IRO (industrial relations officer) who might be able to point you in the right direction.
