Don't know about anyone else, but my local Lidl are doing cycling gear from Thursday 21st. Their computer has a chest strap for heart rate, and an altimeter, and a thermometer - all for £20.

There's more....

Yeah I would guess that the altimeter would be handy for when you go flying over the handlebars.(again)

Hmm. That's kind of tempting a fulfilling-my-curiosity kind of way. I've never worn a heart rate monitor before.

I could move my existing cheapie computer onto my rear wheel so my son can read the numbers off it while he's on the seat on the back or in the trailer...

If its a "Bikehut" HRM then I got one from Aldi a few months ago. Works ok occasionally but even after the chest strap is moistened/vaselined/slobbered on etc., the signal to the computer can be erratic. Mine tended to come on after about 2 miles then come and go thereafter mind you I think they were about £12 in Aldi, perhaps these new ones are more reliable ( but I have my doubts  ) If you do take a punt then theres a thread on Fitness somewhere with lots of info about assessing max HR etc.

The thing you have to remember with Lidl is it is cheap for a reason. Having said that I did get a cycling t-shirt for £5, which does the job, so long as you don't think about the wage levels of the person who made it...

I just think about the wage level of the person who bought it.

Anyway, the is usually no difference in pay between the people who make the cheap shirts and those who make the expensive ones.
