Why would I walk up an escalator? It's moving towards my destination, to walk is just a waste of energy.

So do you take public transport to/from work, so you don't "waste energy" cycling?

Ah. You've not met Tall Martin, have you? You see, he has to be very careful: were he to walk up those escalators he'd be risking Acute Altitude Sickness. Plus I believe the Civil Aviation Authority has some sort of court injunction against him about going above ground floor without informing Air Traffic Control.
