Hi, all

Looking to get a set of lights of lights and pay no more than £60, ideally around the £40 mark.

My route to work is a generally well lit road and the important thing for the lights are motorists see me.

Cateye seem to be a popular make. Can anyone give me advice.

I have read other threads and the jacket and mudguards are sorted!

Cheers.

Never had a problem with Cateye myself - get the best you can for your £40 , e.g.

I got a free set of Cat Eye lights about a year ago with a bike mag subscription, Survived all kinds of weather over about 4000 miles .Front one just about copes with unlit roads on steady and is very bright and visible on flashing.

Rear one was doing well untill it jumped off the back of my rack bag perfectly under the wheel of a following car  I forget which model but they were about £40 for the set in bike shops.

Have replaced the back one with a Smart Lunar R1. Very bright 1 watt LED plus the option to use some less bright LEDs if you are in a group of cyclists .(Its so bright using the main LED it would blind any cyclist close behind) Cost £9.95 from Bike Tarts Seems to be usually about £15

I've used Cateye lights for years and TBH it amazes me how much grief they get. I've never had any problems, yes they've worn out, yes I've broken a couple, but I can't fault the quality of them IME.
I've also tried Knogg's, but found them to be a complete fail, despite their rubber enclosure mine got wet and failed within a couple of weeks. Also FYI, some people seem to have had issues with the brackets failing on some Smart lights.
I can't warrant the price of lights such as the Hope 1 Vision, and TBH I don't need that much power. I use two of these, http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/ro...1-Front-Light-USB-Charge/CATELIGH180000000000 which are currently a bargain at Ribble, and I also have two of these as well, http://www.wiggle.co.uk/tacx-lumos-front-and-rear-led-handlebar-light-set/
Throw in my helmet light, http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=47006 for improved visibility at junctions and I'm pretty visible on the road

I did get a SMART light to clip onto my pannier bag as it occurred to me that the seat post light wasn't visible any more! It is very bright, cost a tenner and was the only cheapie one in Evans with a clip - I don't think Cateye generally do

Consider getting two sets. If one fails, falls off or the batteries run down then you have another light. Especially important on the back where it is not in your view.
