P clips work well for fitting a rack with no eyelets. Not temporary, but not impossible. Or just fit a tortec ultralight rack, which weighs very little

I'm with @smutchin here. If you don't want an all out tourer you'll end up with two very similar bikes. Nothing wrong with that necessarily, but you might be able to spend your cash more wisely.

At a rough guess E.Mids to Newcastle is about 300-400k depending on route. I'm guessing you'll take 2-4 days and staying in B&Bs etc (ie not camping) so you'll need to carry a change of gear and maybe something to wear off the bike, tolietries, towel maybe. Possibly some squishy shoes if you ride road cleats. You should be able to squeeze that lot into a saddlebag or seat post mounted pack. Panniers may be overkill for a one off.
