My pedal refectors are forever dropping off. I replaced my pedals a month or so ago and only have 2 reflectors still hanging on in there!

Can you be fined if the Police caught you without lights on your bike after dark in a urban area ?
Yes you can get done for this.
You can also get done for having no lights on your bike in broad daylight, i.e. no visibility restrictions. My brother-in-law was stopped and warned by the police for this.

I think that Policeman was getting confused:
RVLR 1989 Part 1 Regulation 4 Exemptions - General
"(3) Nothing in these Regulations shall require any lamp or reflector to be fitted between sunrise and sunset to– <snip> (c) a pedal cycle

Strange. I asked this question a month or two ago. Can you be fined and whats the penalty for no lights. The same for no brakes.
I wondered after seeing little (and not so little) scrotes all over the pavement after dark
I got lots of answers saying "Yes its an offence"
This goes a bit further, linking to more info.
No ones said what the enforceable penalty for any of it is though.... slap on the wrist?

Your brother in law is pulling your plonker, or else the dibble were doing it for a dare.

There is no requirement for bikes to be equipped with lights during the day/good visibility, and no power to stop a cyclist to warn him about infringing a law that does not exist.

Like so many rules / laws pertaining to bicycles in this country they are completely out of date, this has come up many times before [often by me ] but pedal reflectors, really. It's about time someone,.and I have no idea who it is, the Transport Minister maybe? Anyway gets a grip of these antiquated laws and writes down some sensible, practical stuff, it really shouldn't be that difficult.

Most laws like this just disappear - no point paying some lawyer £££'s to remove some wording from the statute.
