Like a Smart R1 but waterproof...

Might not be the best answer, but if you liked the R1, buy an R2 and put silicone grease around the battery compartment seal, both of mine have been soaked with rain, left outside in rain and snow for a few hours at a time and no problems

I've seen a lot of posts about the water ingress problems with these lights yet have never had any trouble myself, have an R1 and have had an R2 before which never let me down despite commuting in all weathers.

I've got loads of Smart R2's split across about 5 bikes. Never had any problems in the rain with any of them. For anyone after some going cheap, Planet X currently have them for £9.99. Last week they were £4.99, but they're still cheap at £9.99

Might give the R2 a go thanks. I need to order a new stem from Planet X anyway. How bright are the half watt LEDs on the R2 vs the 1 watt on the R1?

Got R1 and R2 here no problems at all.

I've had problems with 3 R1s now if you use mud guards they are fine in the wet but they don't stand up to the spray at all.

Another r2 user and i have never had problems with it , brighter as well.
