Some people just hit the like button without thinking.

I just like what amuses me, etc.
As for 'liking' stories like the knife story (which I just accidentally deleted), well, everyone has their own reasons, but just look at the response people on here get when things happen to them too.

You must try harder. This means that your posts to likes ratio is only 40%. Clearly people hate 60% of everything you type

 There is probably an element of truth in that!!!

To be fair, I think its probably to do with the fact that I must have posted several thousand messages (of total guff no doubt) before the 'Like' feature was introduced, so there is a lag between us pre and post 'like' members!

Its just upthread, but here:

Some people just hit the like button without thinking.

I went on facebook recently, someone had posted that their child had been threatened with a knife at school and needless to say they were very upset about it ......... six people liked it. What they liked about it i cannot imagine.

About 3 quarters of it appears to consist of either 'Its almost Friday!!' or 'ITS FRIDAY WOOHOO!!' type posts anyway.

Or something about(at least in the States) some stock car racer or pro wrestler, or some game like Candy Crush Hysteria or some such.People on Facebook should spend more time on a bicycle, or looking at trains, or hunting and shooting over their dogs.

If I post a new query and people reply, I try to "like" all the direct replies, regardless of usefulness, as I appreciate their taking the time to give advice etc. Others I just "like" if they're good or interesting or make me snort.

On a recent thread I posted several useful and even kindly comments and the OP never added one "like" to my posts or anyone else's. I stopped reading the thread as I couldn't bring myself to post a snippy-sounding "ahem, do you know what the "like" button is for?" - which was me trying to be kind and find a nice reason why he hadn't bothered to "like" any of the friendly advice he was being given by various CCers.

Harrumph!
