Ok, got yer. Well done. Motorbikist meself. In fact I spent a year teaching CBT, but not on big bikes. Teaching folk on 125s was enough for me. Gave it up ... too much stress ... after a lady piled into the kerb on an auto scooter (not hurt thankfully) thinking she'd slow down if she OPENED the throttle.
Anyhow ... good luck with the on-road bit mate.

Please go steady. Even a 600cc middleweight can kill or maim you in an instant if you aren't used to the power.

Few years back a mate of mine let me have a spin on his FJ1200, 140bhp and a top whack of 170 or so, easiest bike to ride I've ever been on, so docile and controlled. When I got back Graham said "well" and we both agreed is was easier to ride than a moped then both of us went out on it and he showed me its party trick. 2 biggish blokes (both around 13.5 stone 6 footers) on board he slowed right down to 15mph in top gear with the rev counter below normal tickover then gently fed in the throttle.EDIT- without touching the clutch lever It was like an electric motor in the way it just took off, 15-170 in one gear 2 up. :eek:

Yep, you absolutely have to feel safe, comfortable and, above all, in control.
As it happens I have a 1200GS Adventure which looks big and somewhat unwieldy but is actually very easy to ride and control. BUT, go only with what you're comfy with.

I like middle weight bikes, having owned a lot of bikes over the years from 125cc to 900cc.
Currently own a Honda CBF 600S which is ok, but to be honest I preferred my old 1998 Yamaha Fazer 600. I would have another of them in a minute if I could find the right bike at the right price.

I'm really not here to persuade you but ... my pal learnt in his early 60s. Bought a BMW 650GS single. We were off to Morocco and he finally took the plunge and bought a 1200GS, having moaned for ages that he wouldn't be able to handle a bike, "twice as big".
Now he says, "Easier to ride than the 650". It is, cos it's more balanced and the power availability, used wisely, makes it an easier ride.
BUT I'm not trying to influence you. I bought a 500 first off, kept it around 9 months then moved up to an 850 BMW twin. In case you haven't noticed, I'm a bit of a beemer fan.
Again, do what you're comfy with, making sure you test ride before deciding.
