Given this is what cyclists may want to achieve on these dark nights Ford have developed a Christmas style jumper for cyclists which generates a Christmas tree shape of light on the ground around their bike which supposedly helps motorists to give them sufficient room. Didn't there used to be one that projected a red bike behind & white bike in front of the cyclist, the fact I have to ask shows how good it is/was!

It'd be good if they developed sensors that melted the the radiator hose and blew the head gasket if the car passed to closely to a cyclist..

Don't know about melting radiator hoses but don't many motorists already blow a 'head gasket' whenever they see a cyclist

There was this one... (I added the 2 straight green lines which make the connection between the green image and the cyclist more obvious.)

This is a safe distance? I notice their main image is of a microscooter, to make the tree seem bigger.

I think the intent was visibility to drivers pulling out of a side road. Still a stupid idea whatever.

Well I'm of the perhaps controversial opinion that lights are unnecessary in a built up area so as good as nothing at all in my book.

I believe Ford managed that on the 3 cyl Fiesta without close passing anybody or anything

They're on the Santander bikes aren't they ? I'm not sure how much use they are for drivers but as a pedestrian it tells you there's a bike around.

If that was the intent then expecting drivers to look at the ground is just bonkers. So your conclusion is correct
