Marine bearing grease for the bottom bracket and the steering tube bearings, because they come into contact with water. I use white lithium for pedals and wheel bearings. The wheel bearings get redone and examined every so often, and marine bearing grease is a bit thick for them. I use the bluish green type, like in ships' stores. I also use white lithium as anti seize where aluminum and steel parts meet, such as a seat post.
Duckams Keenol was great but have used the last lot out of the last box I bought way back in 1990  apparently it is no longer made or sold)

Is copper slip any more effective than Vaseline?
Is a fiddle stripping out traditional cup and spindle bottombrackets but there is where I am at and happy with it.

As Crankarm says many bearings are now sealed. The remainder in pedals and wheels seem to be fine with the thick gooey (yes it's brown) stuff already recommended.
