Hi, Not been on for a while, but here i am hoping for a little help, I'm currently riding a 17.5" Genesis Core 20 (2009 model) when out on a good ride (20 mile-ish) i have started to get lower back pain and some times neck and shoulder ache ..... i have tried lowering and lifting the seat post as well as moving the saddle forward, and also lifting the bars a bit .... also when i stand flat footed on the floor over the top tube there is no real clearance ....

My previous bike which was a 16" Trek 4300 D seemed fine and i had none of these issues,

Now would you say the bike is to big for me (i'm 5'6") or could it be to do with the geometry of the 2 different bikes .... ?

Thanks for any help ...

top tube clearnance will vary accoirding to frame construction; old mtb had horizontal top tube so obvioulsy will have less clearance than sloping top tube; likewise

I had lower back pain on a hybrid recently and discovered it was coz I had the saddle angled ever so slightly backwards... It was pushing me off the back of the bike and my body was putting extra effort into staying on. Try some minute saddle angle adjustments. Might also depend if your bars are helping to push you back off the bike, in which case you might consider rolling them forward, or lowering the stem.

Make single small tweaks at a time and ride for a few miles to see what happens. It'll probably take a week or two to get it just so.

If that doesn't work then yes you may have a bike that's a bit big but if so, pull saddle and bars towards each other till comfortable and enjoy the longer wheelbase, which should help with commuting.
