Nice link, I've been trying to follow the progress of this storm as my wife's cousin has a house on Chincoteague Island, eastern shores of Virginia, which was initially thought to be right in the path of the storm. The average elevation of the island is 5 feet above sea level and their house is only about 4 feet above high tide. One time when we visited there was an intense thunderstorm and almost all of the roads were badly flooded as the rainwater has no easy way to run off. The website for the island stated that from noon Monday there was an island wide curfew and the island was cut off from the mainland as the five mile causeway that leads to it was impassable.
Latest update is that Sandy didn't have too much effect on the island but I suspect there'll be a big impact on the adjacent wildlife reserve at Assateague Island as it s a very fragile environment.
