Liverpool to London

I'm hatching a plan to cycle from Wallasey to London later this year. I reckon it's less than 250 miles, so would like to do it over 2 days. Has anyone got any route advice? I'm happy with sensible A roads and a direct route.

The direct route would be the Watling Street A5 but that isn't sensible south of Telford IMO. I used to live near the A5 in Northamptonshire and rode it for only a few miles at a time.

The obvious route would be broadly NCR 5 to Oxford (cutting off its wobbles), NCR 57 to I think Princes Risborough then NCR 6 into London but that probably suffers the usual Sustrans gotchas. I've never ridden any of that, though, so please let us know how you go!

200 miles direct, about 250 for the NCR.
