BigJim, yes the camper bag has some weight to it, 920g according to their website. The reason for using a saddle bag is to keep the weight as far forward as possible and using a rack to help support the weight/prevent it swaying. Tho you could use their 'bagman' support but that still leaves all the weight on the seatpost, positions the bag higher up and doesn't do as good a job as the rack at stopping the swaying. Removal is a sinch since I'm using a pair of small carribina's to attach it to the saddle rails.
Gear wise, 50/34 up front and 11/27 cassette. I'm not crossing the alps and the total weight of kit+bike+me is lighter than many riders+similar bike without luggage.
I was tempted to stick with the ultremo's but noticed some splits and loose threads in them last evening,
'ruined tyres', after only three months I'm bit peeved particular since I'm triathlon'ing on it this weekend. Consequently, I will probably end up getting something a little tougher for peace of mind, shame cos they are really fast tyres and give you a lot of confidence, particularly useful on the descents of last weekends Dartmoor Classic.
Cheers!
Chris
