Local football team sponsorship

Has anybody been involved with finding a sponsor for a local football team? If so, how did you go about it? I'm the manager of my sons U8's football team and we managed to get a kit sponsor through a parent. We're now looking at getting some rain jackets for all the team. Obviously, the first port of call was the parents but many of them work in the public sector. Raising funds is much harder than coaching the kids and is taking up far more time!!

Can you not find a local business that would help, I used to sponsor a local team when one of my factory boys played for them?

I would suggest a local business as well. when I used to play hockey in WGC we were sponsered by a well know brand of cereal that was made there.

Think the local business idea is a good one. How do I go about this? Is it just a case of writing to them with what we are after and what they will get from it? Or do you think it would be better to speak to them in person?

See if you can find if they have a community relations office or something similar to initiate contact. When you do make a pitch aim it so that it it says what they will get out of it in terms of good publicity rather than on how much little Johnny wants to play for Man U

I run an under 13's team (what a friggin nightmare they have become since they were under 8's ) and we struggled for a sponsor this year. I know it's predictable but we just printed off flyers and stuck them in the local shops, cafe's, newsagents etc and we soon found a new sponsor.

Thanks. I'll definitely go down the good publicity route. As a club, we very much focus on the fun aspect. Although I do think winning is sometimes more important to the parents!!

Thanks Mark. I might try this. We play very close to a number of local shops so might try a mail shot to them all. Hopefully we will get something back.

Get in touch with your local newspaper... If they're anything like our locals they'll take a few pics and get the kids to look especially sad. A bit of blurb and the offers will come flooding in!

are you based in or connected to a pub or working mans club at all .

any of the parents work for any big national companys that might help out .
