Just as I am getting used to the new entry system to the Clyde Tunnel this happens.
I got chatting with the chap who came to 'rescue' me, nice chap. He told me that the door controllers (i.e. him) are moving away from their current base at the tunnel to a central control room in the city centre (at least 20 mins drive away!). He was reasonably sure that the emergency button would have released the door, but he couldn't confirm this.
He also suggested (as I suspected) that faced with the 'cage' type doors, a lot of people decided not to go through the tunnel (he sees this on the CCTV). I'd be really interested to know if the entry system is encouraging people to use it or discouraging them.
Oh an apparently they now have the funding to fit the same system to the north bound tunnel!
