I said when I 1st saw that what happens if you get locked in - What was that 6 weeks ago ?
And yes the 1st 2 doors would put me right off.

Why not padlock it and issue keys ?

I think if i was in magnatom's situation I would have pressed the emergency release whether i was having an emergency or not.
They can't just imprison you!

I would be reluctant to press it. As (If its like the emergency door release switches we have at work) they are built like the red fire alarms, "break glass in case of emergency". When you break the glass, a button pops out, releasing the electronic locks. Someone has to then replace the glass and reset the switch for the doors to lock again. Until that happens all the neds can get in!

I didn't hit the emergency switch as, it wasn't an emergency. Anyway the guy didn't take too long and I didn't have any meetings I had to be at in the morning.

There are alternatives, probably another 3 or 4 miles, but I would be later for work in the morning (I help get the kids to nursery so I can't just leave later) and at night I want to get home to see the kids at dinner, so I'd rather not extend the route (although on the other hand I would enjoy an extended route).

What annoys me a little is the fact that they have just secured funding for the other tunnel and are about to start work on that, without even asking the users of the tunnel if they like what they have done so far (at least to my knowledge). Everyone I have spoken to in Glasgow thinks it is a step back rather than forwards, and it does scare the very people off it is supposed to be encouraging to use it.

I will of course be in touch with the council next week...

A decent CCTV system with a loudspeaker telling folk to disperse would be as effective, I reckon.

How about rigging up a speaker system and playing Radio 3 or Classic FM? That would definitely keep them away until they vandalise speakers...

God yes. And knowing that apparently anyone can get in, and be locked in with you (assuming the opening at the other end was working). I don't think I'd trust a system like that to work.

I just wouldn't use it, and presumably that means a whopping detour?

How does it keep them out? It wasn't quite clear, do you have to be 'cleared' to get in? In which case, what if you are a ned who just happens to want to walk through? Surely the neds could just push the button and enter, one by one, if they wanted.

totally agree with you Arch. as a woman there is no way i would go down that tunnel anyway, daylight or not, and certainly if i thought there was any chance of me being locked in with some nutter. and how does that deter loiterers? they just go in and then don't come out the other end. horrible spooky place.

ps.. that could only happen to you Magnatom are you sure the guy is not someone you posted on youtube LOL. he's prob being waiting to get you back
