I got back yesterday evening from a 3 day cyclotourist brevet that included part of the Loire valley. I might write something for the 'riders tales' forum... but probably won't!
There were 3 courses; 130k, 150km and 180km (I did all, my clubmates only the 1st 2) but it can be ridden as one 400km+ ride.
Highlights (for me) were Sancerre; a lovely little town in a fantastic setting. It was stunning coming over a hill to see it nestled in the valley below, but itself on top of a hill, and surrounded by vineyards.
and the canal bridge at Briare....
...which had me thinking about leaks (not leeks) overflows and waterfalls!
The final leg, the 180km, I was on my own so able to go at my slightly quicker pace across the flat wheat fields south of Bourges. Excellent stuff. The final control point was at the abbey in Noirlac....
...a fine way to end my ride.
