Tynan - there ain't nothing Gastro about the Castle. Farringdon was a shithole about 20 years ago but its got genteel now, apart from The Castle

ah yes, shithole indeed back in the day, proper boozers full of interesting types, Dalston and Stokey were very black and slightly scary, Upper Street was edgy, Hackney was almost a no go

I popped in for a drink a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night and I would not class it as posh but also not a dump.
It was lively with the usual office workers but upstairs was half empty.
I even managed to get a table in the main bar as it had been empty for about 10 mins.

It had a good selection of beers and spirits and the food didn't look to gastro although I didn't notice anyone eating.

Should be a good night.
