Can anyone suggest what shops there are in London who specialise or have some experience in Fixed/Single Speed?

I think Brixton Cycles and Brick Lane Bikes both claim some expertise in this area, anyone know what they are like?

I'm looking for something that I'll use for commuting and bimbling about London, not track or racing in any fashion.

I quite like the look of the Pomp Pro (and it'll take a rack and mudguard iirc), but they are out of stock at the mo.

Condor (Gray's Inn Rd) have a long history with track and fixed/ss and are a great shop but their bikes are pricey.

Brixton Cyles are very good. I believe they sell Surly. Not sure what else.

I don't know BLB but I remember when they opened (by an ex-courier I think) there was lots of noise on the C+ forum suggesting that they may be selling knocked-off gear, sourced from the handy thieves alley that is Brick Lane itself. I have to say that any bike shop within spitting distance of Brick Lane, that sells second hand gear, would be dodgy in my mind (my opinion only).

There's always the Langster option. Any Spesh dealer should have one of those. [edit] but you won't get guards or a rack on there

BLB are fantastic.

they have all sorts of stock, and it really doesn't look knocked off. most of it is brand new off the peg - fuji, lemond, etc. they also stock lots of new accessories. they sell new hand built harry rowland wheels, including velocity deep rims.

they also have sourced some fine looking guercottis and fondriests.

the people are very friendly. i really do not think they are dodgy at all. go in there and have a look before making a judgement.

Pearson Cycles, Sutton.
Their Aluminium fixed covers all your requirements. Good write-up in C+ and looks good too.
Very nice of Pearsons to have the entire C+ review on their website!

They don't say anything particularly bad about any of the bikes they looked at. Rather bizarrely at one point they talk about the chain stay bridge on the Surly being drilled to accept a rear brake, which whilst possible would be unusual!

I'll have to pop down to Pearsons, they are only a few miles south of me.

I'm glad that's the case. I'm thinking back to a couple of years ago when they opened. It was all conjecture then and I s'pose it goes to show that assumption makes an ass out of u and me. Well, me in this case.
I just hope they let you bring your bike inside. Can't imagine anyone wanting to leave a bike in the open anywhere around BL.

it's been open for one year exactly.

maybe people think it's the old stolen bike shed under the arches. (it's not).

they let you bring your bike in as long as you leave it out the back in their yard.

it's actually on bethnal green road.
