Hi all,
I decided to do a 9 day cycle tour from North London to Frankfurt in Germany earlier this month. If you're interested in watching said video, it's linked below [sadly seems to be blocked on mobile devices ]. I spent around a week making this one so hope you enjoy it

The tour went through: London, Rochester, Ashford, Dover, Dunqirk, Ostende, Brugges, Ghent, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Colonge, Bonn, Koblenz, and Frankfurt. Among many other smaller places.

(I timestamped a part I liked - but you choose what you want to watch).

For me this was the best tour, and the longest one that I've been on to date. Germany in my opinion was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone. I went along the River Rhine from Dusseldorf to almost Frankfurt (the Rhine had amazing views) and I also cycled through many local routes which were just as interesting to me, it was clear that a lot of effort had gone into building them.

For me England was the worst part but that was likely influenced by the weather, Belgium was way better than expected. I was only in Netherlands for about 50 miles so I can't really comment on that country. But as I said, Germany for me made the trip, Colonge & Bonn seemed very historic and Frankfurt for me seemed like an American city (if I can say that). Out of everywhere I've been in Europe I'd say Frankfurt is the most similar to an American city (due to the skyline).

I had a few interesting things happen. On the night before the last day I met two people around my age (20) that lived less than 10 miles away from my house, just in the middle of nowhere along the Rhine. They were tandem cycling to Basel which I thought was pretty cool.

Brussels felt very strange / sinister (video kinda shows it). Military trucks everywhere, likely from the recent terror attacks.

I'm happy to answer any questions as well.

Cheers,
Rob

That was an excellent video. Your camera was superb what was it and was it on your handlebars? The stability of the film was great.

You should send it to Chris Boardman and Halfords to show his bikes on tour as you did a fair bit of advertising for them.

Shame you only did a short bit in Holland myself and @hopless500 spent a lot of time there on our tour last year through Holland and Belgium. It's really great. Seeing some of the places we went through was good too.

Not toured in Germany, unless you count border hoping last year so that was interesting. I fancy southern Germany into Austria.

Keep up the touring and the filming:okay:

Happy reminders of some places I have been and also some new views.
You caught a nasty shower at the Lorelei but the sunshine everywhere else was a tonic!
I had to turn off my sound after the volume increased suddenly at around 1.01 minutes in, but otherwise an enjoyable video, thanks:smile:.

I get those purple stripes from my Contour HD too. What camera did you use on the head mount?

Thanks man  I used three Contour Roam 2's in the video ( I got them fairly cheap), one on a mini tripod, one on the handlebars and one a head strap. At times I also used the camera on my samsung galaxy s5, so kinda went full out on this video lol.

And haha that's not actually a bad idea about contacting one of them. Cheers for the suggestion

I plan to cycle to Berlin in two weeks time. I liked Germany that much that I want to go back, my favorite country in Europe that I've visited so far. So I would recommend going, and sure I count border hoping as cycling there.

If all goes to plan I will be spending more time in the Netherlands on the next trip.

Cheers for watching,
Rob

Haha happy that I brought back some memories. What parts did you recognise (other than Lorelei)? And yup the sun was amazing, but towards the end my eyes started hating it (i wish I brought sunglasses :/ ). I was even stopped 5 times in Frankfurt by people asking if I wanted to buy drugs lol. My eyes probably looked liked I've been smoking weed all day or something, very red. The shower was also very nasty.

And my friends said the same thing about the song at 1.01, I must have accidentally made that song too loud. Sorry about that

Those lines are weird, they only appear when the sun is shining brightly for me. And I used a Contour Roam 2 on the head mount as well as on the handlebars. They are nice cameras. You got a yt channel yourself?

I've done the Rhine/Waal route from Cologne through to Hoek van Holland. Really good route.

Next time it'll be Cologne south to Karlsruhe and Basel.

I'm also planning Berlin to Arnhem on the R1/D3 route.

Nice man. I'm planning a Berlin route myself as well, hopefully in 2 weeks (through Rotterdam)... I liked Germany that much, I want to go again lol. But thinking of going via Hamburg, so not sure about the europa radweg r1 route. I've heard it's a good route though.

And nice I would recommend Colonge.

Terrific video Rob! I enjoyed every minute of it! You have the advantage of youth that I no longer have, but three years ago I cycled the Danube from its source in the Black Forest to Passau, on the Austrian border (abt 450 miles), then last year I continued from Passau to Budapest, a similar distance. If all goes according to plan I hope next summer to cycle the Rhine from Hook of Holland to Lake Constance (maybe both ways, in 100km stages, using my car to move on from one stage to another). At my pace it could take me at least a month!
