Did find a website that said a fully charged 800 will give you about 8 hours!! I work that out at around 130 ish miles.
I won't be trying to keep up with you anytime then. 16.25 mph average moving speed over 130 miles. You're a machine!

Worth bearing in mind that two decent AAs in an Etrex 20 will give you roughly 24 hours of use. I was getting this in '09, including a good 8 hours of night riding. The 30 is a little hungrier than the 20, as it has the additional compass / altitude gubbins. All new Extrex models suffer from tiny font disease, and (to my eye) its a 50/50 between the old Etrex Legend HCx (very readable, runs forever, accurate, but the case goes a bit gummy in the heat and can lead to water ingress) and the new Etrex 20 (very accurate, runs forever, solid construction, but not as readable as the Legend).

+ 1 for the Etrex 20. No regrets at all about not going for the more (ever so slightly) featured 30 model. I use Maplin AAs and am currently trying to use same AAs for lights for simplicity - helps the recharging schedule, particularly when camping.

(momentarily off-topic - look for lights that take an even number of AAs, as this makes it easier to charge things. And devise a system whereby you can tell which batteries are fully charged spares, and which are dead. I use a box and a bag. Those in the box are fresh.

You can get out of London overnight, the morning rush hour is on the other side of the road. There's then fewer tourists in the Peak District and by the time you hit Manchester the traffic is heading in the opposite direction. It's mainly about fewer tourists
