pretty much all the tourist things are in the centre, so best off going there. if you go shopping you can then go back and dump the stuff and be back on the town quickly.

as mentioned, if a brekkie isn't included (and it rarely is), then head for a cafe. there is a Caffe Nero, Costa, etc most places (some travelodges have them in there).

i've seen the apartments near st pauls at a good price - although the City is pretty much closed on sundays.

thank you for the replies sounds like to get hotel in central london and go by public transport to wembley.
had a quick look at the travelodge site and they have one near tower bridge and the reviews sound decent on tripadvisor since i am only going for couple of nights no point getting really expensive hotel. the travelodge is £155 for 2 nights (non refundable) or £220 for refundable. seems quite central also
