Forgot to say, glad to see you have the proper old school 'Dodgy blue mass' transformer.

It's massive really, considering the size of stuff these days. The controllers were re-wired by me some time ago, and work great.


Just love the 'burning' smell you get from the old controllers....

this would be the closest i could get to controlling a car for a long time
i used to love my scalextric though very good fun broke a few cars by going too fast on bends took the spoiler off when one car shot off the track and hit the radiator but all was fixed by some gaffa tape

Oh you missed out -well done for getting one.

Have you seen the price of the Digital stuff... £300 for a set (OK it's the set with 4 cars), which actually probably isn't bad, as the cars are about £30 or more each these days.

I used to have that much track that it took 2 transformers to get the current all the way round. Also we used to put butter on the corners to get the back end of the cars hanging out.
If only we could make time go backwards as i am 54 now

do they do a bicycle one? im surprised there isnt a bicycle set instead of cars that would be good
when is there going to be a cycling game out for the playstation aswell theres car ones and other ones a cycling one would be good on the track or road racing im sure some fat kids or boring people would spend hours on it

Patrick - you are a star............ I am deffo going to get those three cars going - classics...... there are soldering kits in Aldi, and my missus is a dab hand at soldering - something I haven't ever managed to do....... Cheers

Fab.... mine is just about at the two transformer limit...... - just squeezed it into the lounge, and it runs under the dining table....

Considering the age, and the treatment I gave the cars (had the stunt kit - the Mini's were ace for stunts.....) it's held up well..... I had my set fixed to a full room length table my dad made - it was fab...... other than the fact he screwed it to the table , so when I got it out for my 30th (ten years ago) I filled all the holes, and painted the filler matt black (how sad) - you can't tell now, and the cars have been flying (literally) round the track all day - the kids love it, as it's much harder to drive than the Carrera slot track that this kids have.... They have been made up as I have a stack of old tyres (had to spend a small fortune 10 years ago on new tyres for 12 cars......

Most of my cars don't have the magna traction....... it's great.... back out, time it right and flip the opponent.....

Ah that switch lane stuff...... was good, way ahead of Scalextric but didn't last long though did it............unfortunately....

I can buy brand new spanking cars that will work on a 36 year old track.....?

The new digital is a bit of a let down - you can switch only when a 'switch' lane comes up.....nothing like the TCR stuff....

Always wished they would invent a wall mounted scaletrix , then there would no more tiresome setting up and taking apart. Imagine just nailing the thing on the wall above the bed and leaving it there

Cool stuff Fossy.

A mate of mine hat TCR and I thought it was rubbish. If you crossed over when you were in the wrong place or not going fast enough the car would just stop between lanes. Did it all the time.

Scalextrics is one of those things that doesn't live up to the greatness of the idea. At the end of the day there's only so interesting plastic cars going round and round can get. The best bit is setting it all up.
