Looking after elderly parents

Today we have a trip to Numpton general hospital to do .
Father's Got an appointment to see a specialist after an MRI scan a few weeks ago.

I raised the subject of Christmas last night and I think I opened a hornets nest .

I think we are doing Christmas dinner but we have a couple of plans that can be put into place if the main plan doesn't work.

So about 5 minutes before I was due to go and collect my parents for this appointment they received a call from the hospital saying appointment cancelled and sorry we forgot to ring you last Friday and let you know, so poor old dad who has been worried all weekend about the appointment now has to wait till the new year to be contacted again but he is still worried about what the specialist was going to say.

Complain they maybe valid reason for cancelling it as so many issues are effecting services at the moment. It's the lack of communication that the issue. Imagine arriving and being told you're dad's lucky he's some to take him. Some don't have that and travel is difficult and costly.

@tom73 I am sure there's a very valid reason and like you say at least we hadn't driven across to the hospital.
And yes he is lucky that I have a flexible job and I am able to do the transportation as and when required.
Either way I would have still been there for him as he has been for me all my life.

Someone referred to us as the 'sandwich generation' the other day, looking after both elderly parents & also children we only have the FIL as the top slice to worry about these day, but at 87 he is entering the danger zone, his mind is slowly going, extremely slow to take in new information & multiple repeats, but the bottom slice ot kids & grandkids is there.
