On the road to nowhere
Im fancying a project and looking at the collection I'm missing an adventure bike. I'm after advice on a budget disc frame that'll take panniers and 700 x 32-35's. I'm probably going to set it up as a flat bar rather than drops so I can use it in place of the mounting bike when out with the family

looking for something like a boardman CX team, but their 2nd hand prices have rocketed.

any suggestions welcome, Cheers Kev

Planet X London road?

If setting any bike up as flat bar, be very careful to get the right size frame. It won't be the same as for a drop bar bike (you need bigger)

Why not just get a second hand flat bar disc bike, I'd suggest something from the Whyte R7 range. I sold a Portobello for under £250 not that long ago, had 28s, mightnhavd taken 32s

Or this is being sold by a CCer and could be a ready made bargain (you'd just need to take a trip to collect)

A second hand 2014 Boardman team is what, £400 on eBay? Can't see being able to build for much less. I got a new one for £500 about 9 months ago

Apples and oranges ;)
I'm sure, but the OP wants a budget frame to make up to a bike for pottering with the family. A £400 frame will easily become a £800 bike...there are more budget frames out there

He needs to tell us what his budget is..for example, the Spa Elan disc frame is £1100...would make a lovely bike ;)

Agreed. Just not sure how Adventure-ready a 400 quid adventure bike would really be... and for family pottering you just need... a bike. ;)

Thanks for the responses guys and gals. I was thinking around the £250 for a frame and I'll pick up parts as I go along. For sizing I'm 5'9" and ride a medium Giant road and MTB

I already have some 10/11 speed and 8/9/10 speed compatible wheels.

I already have a 11spd front mech or a Claris rear mech so can go any which way

I already have a mountain bike with 2.4 knobblies on but that's just for chucking around

To be honest I think I'm just after a project.
