Luckily I'm not!

I'm 5'8" with 29" inside leg, according to their sizing guide I need the 53cm.

Check with Evans before, get them to get one in - the 53cm isn't in immediate stock online, but a shop may have them. You can do click and collect, as an online purchase there should be no obligation

I use the Specialized BG ergo grips, cheaper than Ergon, although I don't bother with bar ends, never really used them much when I did have them

Under suffrance I should add, I am gutted that I have to use the rings as the Whyte ones are too small to go over the grips I made sure I reused the Whyte bar ends though

They may if you pay a non refundable deposit, can't see them her wise as there is always the risk of scratching something when fitting anything. They'll certainly do it, if you've paid up. They have previously had free fitting promotions on kit purchased. Any bike shop should be happy to fit stuff to a new bike assuming everything has been bought from them. They fitted pedals bought online from them, on a price match no less. And they fitted the grips bought in store

I will ride them, but like I said I prefer to have a few in mind before getting to the shop.

To be honest I don't particularly like the atmosphere in many bike shops, I've not been to Evans but many I've been in just seem to want to rush you and get your money.

Apparently the Charge Grater is 23.2KG, the issue I have with the gears is it's only 8 speed, I'm wondering whether that gives a large enough range for up and downhill.

The Charge site says: LIGHTWEIGHT 6061 ALUMINIUM FRAME and Cro Mo fork.

I do like the simplicity of the bike, lots of good reviews on Evans and it's cheap.

I got a whyte Cambridge for £450 on eBay, ridden once. It is an utterly fab bike IMO, compared to the specializeds and treks I've had in the past. A frame that is better on rubbish roads than my carbon road bike, SRAM apex gearing, hydraulic discs. 10kg...

A £900 bike new, so a no brainer. The whyte site has decent geometry specs etc, its a more mtb than road geometry

That was a bloody bargain! Whyte Bikes are fantastic, OP if you can get a used Whyte for that sort of money you won't go wrong, and the aftersale care is second to non. I had a little issue with spokes braking on my Whyte, they completely rebuilt both wheels with new spokes and hubs under warranty.

And a Caledonian at around your budget, I'm not sure what size you need.
