I'm taking the lad to lapland in dec (for the day) and i need some insurance to cover 'winter sports' inc. snowmobile. The company say they do insurance for £26 and £13, adult and child.

Any ideas if i can get it cheaper?

For a few dollars more you can get 12 months worth of multiple trips cover,
as in travel company quoted us £35 for a fortnights hols, bought 12 month policy off t'interweb for £42, depends if you plan to do more than one hol, although you'd have to declare your winter sports intentions no doubt.
Also remember that out of the £26 quote, most likely £20 will go on admin and commission fees.

£39 for a day's insurance is a bit of a rip-off, unless it really is dangerous but then why would you go? Check out companies that do insurance by the day (GM do this for GM Card holders)or buy annual family world-wide cover (Egg do it for around £65 wiorld-wide inc winter activities)
