looking to buy my 1st road bike...

Hi all
I'm looking to buy my 1st road bike. My choice is between the Felt Z100 or Giant Defy 5 which would be the better buy? I will br using the bike for mainly short 45 min rides in the evening and a few hours over th weekend. I may evem commute to work 1hr 15 each way too. My budget for a bike is around 500-600 and more for accessories.

Get one the right size and that is comfortable, try them both first and others, but also one that you find sexy as you'll want to ride it more.

Check that they will take a decent rack (I doubly you'll want to wear a backpack for such a commute) and mudguards

my advice as norm is to buy 2nd hand first time around to make sure you like it and then if so go and buy new and keep original one as a spare .

Have a look at Merlin Cycles own brand...I got one in Jan Malt R and for the money £500 for tiagra gears

Save up for a Carbon - they are far more comfortable on today's pothole strewn roads.

If you must have one of those bikes try and negotiate a decent pair of wheels - the stock ones will most likely be pretty dire.
