Why is it no-one can spell 'lose' correctly any more?

(with apologies to anyone who may have written 'loose' recently; not having a go, just genuinely confused)

It's one of those modern phemomena, sadly - along with putting an apostrophe before the 's' in order to pluralise a word.

It is 'could have' and 'would have', the shortened versions being 'could've and 'would've'...
