Loosing the showers

At my place one of the showers broke in the ground floor shower facilities and it took 2 months to source the part. Considering I work for B&Q you'd think that was a bad enough lead time, made even worse when they asked one of the other departments who had spares of it upstairs all along.....

Actually, I was admiring a rather nice Aende fixy on Bridlesmith Gate in central Nottingham this very afternoon. If it belongs to anyone on here, please note that at least a front brake is required - riding brakeless makes you a nobber of the first order. Think yourself lucky I didn't add another lock to your bike!

How come you get towels provided? Does the company clean them too?Got an e-mail today at work, upgrades to the showers as there is an increase in demand. Currently we have 4 mens and 2 ladies.
Getting a shower before 9am is pretty much impossible, must be about 50 - 60 guys showering each day.
So the ladies is moving else where and the mens is merging with the current ladies. More lockers being put in and more space for changing and hanging up clothes.
Only downside is this is going to take 5 weeks, with no shower access during that time period
The upside is towels will still be provided and there is a single shower on each floor, however they are like steam rooms!
Ask if you can have a temporary portacabin with a couple of showers in, or if they can arrange with a local gym/leisure centre that you can use their showers.
I'm one of the cycle reps at work. We have managed to persuade the company to do something with our Hinckley Site. They are going to be putting in permanent portacabins, one for women, one for men, all kitted out, showers, lockers etc. it's turning out to be a big job, water pipes, electrical hook up etc.
i've even managed to get hairstraighteners at the Warwick site!! Whoop... and really good ones too. I went down the road of "if you don't provide good ones they will not use them and still bring their own" (they hate them bringing in their own, safety and all that).
The new facilities manager starts in 2 weeks and we are going to ask for the same. We have a ratio of about 90% men to 10% women who cycle. I am going to speak to them about converting one of the female shower blocks into a mens shower block, and accomodate all the women in the other one (they will easily fit). I'm not sure it will go down well with the women to be honest, but tough titty. They would be moaning their heads off if they had to put up with what the men had for their numbers.

The local council may give your company a grant to put one in. something under the eco provisions.i think .

Sometimes I look forward to winter commuting, I just know out of about 8 cyclists there will be me and one guy I sit next too left. He uses the shower on 1 and I use the other

Is all this showering necessary? As long as you're clean when you leave the house and a change of clothes you'll be fine. It's only stale sweat that smells rank.

Baby wipes. Best I get is getting changed in my office. On site its a toilet cubicle. Showers, whats one of them

Yup. We had them since before I started, so I don't actually know why, but I guess it's because a lot of people cycle and the people up top want us to be clean and presentable for clients that might be walking around.
Having another read of the e-mail, it seems that we shall also be able to make use of the showers in the gym in the basement. However I'm not sure I can me arsed to go 5 floors down and back up again. I'll just use the steam room shower.
