Having another read of the e-mail, it seems that we shall also be able to make use of the showers in the gym in the basement. However I'm not sure I can me arsed to go 5 floors down and back up again. I'll just use the steam room shower.
 For a moment there, I believed you.... gym in the basement?? + steam room on the 5th floor?? You must be a very senior civil servant....

The gym is run by fitness first and is open to the public, however out facilities department has worked out an agreement that we can use them through the 5 weeks.
Ah, hot dry sand eh?
Wondering why the swimmers need to shower at the office... where do they swim, up the river?
A few people go for a swim in the serpentine before work. Doing like a triathlon before work.

Only downside is this is going to take 5 weeks, with no shower access

We have showers here at our brand new offices but they are permanently locked and everyone is too afraid to ask the female manager to unlock them. Before anyone laughs.... you don't know her!

Soap and water in an empty spray bottle. (Ab)use the disabled cubicle if possible - I do this but when the premises are closed to the public and we don't currently have any disabled staff - handily it's also the baby changing facility which is a good table for laying stuff out on.

A shower at work is an unimaginable luxury to many of us....

At the previous company I worked for they installed two unisex shower rooms, which is a much better idea than putting them in gender specific change rooms. That resolves the imbalance between male/female shower demand.

Never had showers at work, you'll survive ;)

I couldn't, not after a ~10 mile ride in.

It's also nice to just get out of bed, chuck on the riding clothes and ride, then have a nice wake up shower upon arrival.

My commute is 10 miles each way, and I'd agree.

A couple of years ago I had a c.5 mile commute which included a lovely down hill section of Putney High Street on the way in. It was a piece of cake, but I'd still use the shower facilities to wake myself up. A shower followed by slipping on the suit makes you feel the business.

All these folk who couldn't ride 10 miles without a shower. Some of us don't have this option. About 2 to 3 times a week, I have a 10 mile commute into the office, then a 6 mile commute to a site, then 6 back then another 10 home. No showers or changing rooms. Lucky if I get a disabled loo, but its mainly a loo cubicle. Baby wipes and a bottle of Sure 48 hour is all I have.

I feel lucky with that, at least I can get changed in my office a fair amount of time. Getting changed in a loo cubicle isn't pleasant. Oh and my employer has about 4000 employees in Manchester. I know of a couple of showers, between hundreds of cyclists. We all seem to manage.
