Neither is tax avoidance.

The British economy is run on a massive black market, and tax avoidance model. Not that I a defend the status quo as I am one of the dwindling number of poor suckers that actually pay income tax at source. As far as Sugar is concerned, from what I have read about Amstrad, it brought a hell of alot of wealth and employment to this country. It's the way successive goverments have encouraged and cossetted foreign oligarchs into the country that really hacks me off.

Tax avoidance is perfectly legal. Do you know anyone who pays more tax than they are legally required too?

It is tax evasion which is illegal, so no doubt you declare the value of any private phone calls you make from work and anytime you spend using your employers computer and internet access for personal use as they are both Benefits in Kind and taxable.

It is also worth noting that the first thing Sugar did when he bought Tottenham Hotspur FC was to contact the Inland Revenue and tell them the club had been under-declaring profits for years and owed a considerable amount of back tax.

That is the most ironic headline I have seen for a long while. I wonder if the DM realises how funny it is?

Lord Alan Sugar gets puffed pedalling his bike....

Given the definition of "puff" in a newspaper context as an inane promotional article passed off as a news story and used to fill space .. they were bang on

Alan Sugar was "puffed"

No, but it is an article of faith with Monsieur Remings that they should. Not him of course. Just rich people. Especially people who have stolen it out of the threadbare pockets of the working man i.e. had the balls to set up their own businesses.

Not to mention the real crime, actually creating employment in the private sector. The man is a Nazi.

Also IIRC, he owns a few Pinarellos, including that Spanish champion one.

That's the bike he's riding in that article, a Pinarello Prince of Spain

The story and accompanying photos were changed. The original version showed him having a post-ride cigar, so made a bit more sense.
