Loss of trees on my commute!

I'm cycling along my usual commute along a shared path and you might see something amiss:

(at this time I should add that I did test the tree and it wasn't windy, but even so, I did take this picture quickly!). Now don't get me wrong as I've never seen a dead beaver under a tree, but wouldn't you think they'd chew/bite on the side closest to the water and wetland? Also, it really makes you appreciate, those beavers have really strong teeth and can be quite destructive. Further evidence some furry friends have been busy:

Looks like I'll have to be more careful that I don't get a tree on top of me going home when it's windy! Not seen a beaver yet on my commute, but I'm keeping my eyes open....
