I don't fly that much but my stuff has been lost twice, both on skiing trips. You get a feeling of utter despair when the carousel grinds to a halt in an empty concourse. Horrid. The first time, the cheapo airline beamed my stuff to me via overnight taxi over the Alps. The second time, with BA, they were useless. It took three days. All I had was the clothes I was wearing and my skis and boots which were checked in separately. The hotel lent me some lost clothes, a toothbrush and some other bits and bobs. They kindly offered me an Austrian ski instructor's jacket which I declined. It would have been unfair on my hosts to comprehensively trash the reputation of their ski school. BA and the travel insurance people managed to wriggle out of paying for even the most minor items that were missing. Bastards.

Great holiday though.

My dad used to give the caresell 7 mins to display his bag, if not he'd register it as missing and go
being a BA gold card member perhaps helped with this, he'd got the card due to how often he'd flown due to work and the occasional upgrade to his card due to them loosing his bag, he came to expect it to be lost.

Connecting flights do seem more prone to problems. Mine was lost somewhere between HEathrow, Madrid then onto Uruguay. It didn't reach it's destination, unlike me. 10 days later it did, despite it being found at Heathrow 7 days after I left. They were instructed to send it to my home address, yet it arrived in S America...the day before I left. Magic eh.
