Barnet,
Most cycles, including motorbikes will not work the magnetic sensors in the road. also, the sensors mounted on the posts to detect movement or light. I have shone my lights directly into them and they still do detect the light. This has also happened on the Fnrttc rides near to dartford.

Not illegal. You are allowed to go through red lights if they are not working. If they don't detect a bike they're not working.

Where I used to live, I would regularly RLJ at one particular set of lights coming home at 3am. They were always red on a deserted road. When I first rode the route home, I would wait and then hop off my bike and run round the corner and get back on, but as time went on, I would just look to see if anything was coming (it never was) and ride around anyway. The ex hubby used to run the same lights, 2 hours later, in a car as they took forever and a day to change.

I would have done the exact same thing as the OP, only possibly a bit sooner.

That's because they're not light sensors, they're doppler radar widgets, which measure the change in frequency of the reflected radar signal as you move towards the traffic light.

For the best chance of triggering the loops in the road sensors, ride along the edges of the loop, rather than across the middle. If riding with another person, attack either edge of the loop at the same time.

You must have been like Steve Carell in The 40 year Old Virgin.
All awkward at the start( explains why it took you so long to jump it) then you began to enjoy it and now you will never stop.
