Hoping there is a PC expert who can help! My rather careless daughter has lost her USB stick with her graphics project on it which she has dedicated a lot of time to. Is there any way to recover the document from the PC? She was using the usual Office software.

Thanks in advance.

if the content was saved to the PC originally it should still be there, if saved directly to the USB then no. unless the software had an autosave then there might be a cached copy on the PC somewhere but not sure how you retrieve it Good Luck

is it in the list of previously opened documents... please please tell me she wasn't reading from / saving direct to/from to the usb...
do a global search for *.doc or whichever file type she was working on, it might be in a temp folder or something tucked away on your HD.

As above but use all *.* & specify dates.

Thanks everyone. I feel a bit like the boy who cried "Wolf". I am very happy to report that the USB stick has turned up in Little Miss Landfill's room. The wife was giving a bit of a tidy (with a shovel and a broom!) and Behold! There it was. I am going to make her create a bank up on my PC as well.

I save all important docs etc in three separate places, usually PC, external hard drive and USB or memory card, but good news on it being found.

Brilliant name and in this house would be so true. I'll knick it if I may . Oh & glad her usb is safe and sound also.

Here for rides.
Plus, as the young people say, one to this. It's got a transparent interface, so Miss Landfill won't even know her stuff isn't actually "on" her computer.
Well, actually, it will still be "on" her computer, but a copy will be on the cloud, and, potentially, on any other device she has dropbox installed and synched on.

If she's using the free Office 365 some (most?) schoolkids can get (ask at school for details), you get 1TB cloud storage with OneDrive.
