It is an old trick but there s a much easier way wused to use for opening cooking wine. Fold a thick oven cloth into a pad (oven gloves will do).Hold the pad on the wall and bang the bottle against it. Works a treat.
Not much good if your wine has thrown a sediment, but then, I guess if you are drinking wine which has a sediment, you are going to have several bottle openers about your person.
