No jest - can't stand it, Buckley's is probably the most painful on the lugs.

Mind you I'm listening to Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys at the moment so what do I know.

I think you've just answered your own question. ;)

Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground are everything that the X Factory aka Simon Cowell are not. Good on him for protecting his own material and stopping his songs from being massacred by talentless no hopers trying to make a few quid out of some one else's previous hard work and talent.

+1
how many sh*te cover versions have been foisted upon us because the songwriter wants a few quid to top up his / her pension

Best not to forget though that Reed is also responsible for what many people consider to be the worst record in existence - Metal Machine Music, it's a stinker!

Not entirely fair imo. Reed is known as an experimenter, and that record has influenced many modern musicians such as Autecre and Square Pusher. If people like Reed hadnt tried what was seen as silly and contrived it would never have paved the way for many modern sound recording techniques. The Beach Boys and their ilk also fall into this category.

I agree entirely with Crankarm!! I tried to watch X Factor the other week, it just does my head in - brain-wash telly. "We'll tell you how to feel, and we'll do it with this series of camera shots of Cowell-Scowell cut to doe-eyed wannabee set to plinky plonk piano music!"

Its become formulaic drivel.

Perrfect Day By Lou Reed

Just a perfect day
Drink sangria in the park
And then later, when it gets dark, we'll go home
Just a perfect day
Feed animals in the zoo
Then later a movie too, and then home
Chorus:
Oh it's such a perfect day
I'm glad I spent it with you
Oh such a perfect day
You just keep me hanging onx2
Just a perfect day
Problems all left alone
Weekenders on our own
It's such fun
Just a perfect day
You make me forget myself
I thought I was someone else
Someone good
Chorus
You're going to reap just what you sow
You're going to reap just what you sow
You're going to reap just what you sow
You're going to reap just what you sow

Not exactly hard for the average X Factant to grasp .................. Simon Cowell with $$ signs in his eyes ..........................

Now, if an X-Factant were to sing Take A Walk On The Wild Side by Lou Reed ...................... all hell would break loose ....

Holly came from Miami FLA
Hitch-hiked her way across the USA.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her leg and then he was a she
She said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side,
Said, hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.
Candy came from out on the island,
In the backroom she was everybody's darling,
But she never lost her head
Even when she was given head
She said, hey baby, take a walk on the wild side
She said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side
And the coloured girls go, doo doo doo, doo ...
Little Joe never once gave it away
Everybody had to pay and pay
A hustle here and a hustle there
New York city is the place where they said:
Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side
I Said hey Joe, take a walk on the wild side
Sugar Plum Fairy came and hit the streets
Lookin' for soul food and a place to eat
Went to the Apollo
You should have seen him go go go
They said, hey Sugar, take a walk on the wild side
I said, hey honey, take a walk on the wild side
Jackie is just speeding away
Thought she was James Dean for a day
Then I guess she had to crash
Valium would have helped that dash
She said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side
I said, hey honey, take a walk on the wild side
And the coloured girls say doo doo doo, doo ...

Yay Lou Reed! Nothing to do with money I have no doubt, he just would like to drive a stake thru' Cowell's heart, but since he can't, he can at least avoid being associated with/exploited by the whole loathsome 'culture' of x factor etc
