What a nice commute in today.

It looked like rain for a bit and the the brooks had a couple of spot on it from getting it out of the garage and eating breakfast but as soon as I got going the rain stopped.

A bit windy going over the forth bridge still but from then it was delightful - considerate motorists giving me loads of room. I waved a guy past me going down by the Royal Elizabeth Yards and he not only waved thanks but also stuck the hazzards on !!

Only got stuck at a couple of sets of lights - and I smiled at the massed ranks of motorists I passed going along the Queensferry Road.

Mine was an improvement today also - just before I get to work there is a bus stop, a quick check over my shoulder and there is a bus just taking his time keeping well back and letting me get on with it - instead of either up my back wheel or cutting in front - was probably behind me since the RAB. I gave a him a wave of thanks. Today was much better.

Hence the post Due to be even nicer tomorrow.

However - it will then pish doon all weekend and normal service will be resumed. I popped up to Kirkcaldy on Sunday and was really impressed with my hill climbing.

I found out on the way back that I was being blown up the hills on the way out. I know that cos I was topping out at about 12 mph on downhills and still peddling.

Today more than makes up for it tho'

I got caught by a comedy deluge this morning. It started raining just as I left the car park of the Sports Centre where I stop for a shower on the way to work. Not hard, and it's only a mile or so from there to work, plus downhill, so it barely takes a few minutes to get to work. Shan't bother to stop and put on the waterproofs, then, it's not worth it.

30 seconds later and it's raining harder but still not worth stopping as I'll soon be at work. Then I had to stop for the ped crossing that NOBDOY ever uses. Apart from today. Now it's raining hard but I'm about half a mile from work and quite wet already so still not worth faffing about with waterproofs.

Then I got to follow an articulated lorry whose driver was clearly lost for most of that last half mile and so was only doing about 15mph: slow enough to be a hold up but not slow enough for me to overtake .. especially as there's lots of pinch points along that stretch and I get fed up enough with people overtaking me along there. I didn't want to go for it, get halfway along and then have him find his way and start to accelerate. Aside from it not being a great idea to try to overtake a huge vehicle whose driver is lost!!

So I eventually pull into the car park at work, pretty soggy by this stage and parked the bike up. Then it stopped raining.

LOL that happens to me all the time.

Yesterday was less of a commute and more of a water ride, I swear there was so much water I was floating on the water at one point

When I got home not only did the rain stop but it had obviously been dry for awhile

That was the second time I've been done like that on this final stretch into work in the last 18 months so I'm not doing too bad I guess ..

The first time I ended up waiting behind a bin lorry in a queue of cars about 400 yards from work. It was raining so hard the water in the road was running over my foot. I though about jumping off the bike and pushing it along the path, but the path was full of binmen lugging wheelie bins about so I quickly decided that wasn't a great option.

When we eventually got moving, my chain came off leaving me stuck in the middle of the road with an irate queue of motons trying to get past me. I dunno if their cars were melting in the rain or summat ..

On the flip side, we've had a dry few months darn ere in the sarf east and I've tended to just beat showers to or from work, or it's stopped raining just as I leave. So I can't really complain ..

If a lack of rain makes the news on the opposite side of the planet, you could probably answer that question yourself.

A bit windy going over the forth bridge

Do they ever close the bridge to all traffic, including cyclists during high wind, or can you always go over ?

It used to be closed quire regularly when i lived there, which was a bit of a pain as i only lived in Rosyth.

It does get closed every now and then but I've been able to get a lift over with the bike by the bridge guys.
