Hmmmm yes down whitehall tonight, zooming along on the new surface, no potholes, bumps, cracks etc. Perfect ride, get some good speed up too. Why cant all roads be like that, now MPs will think that they are because their road is so nice.

Oh and hello to the other specialized Allez rider i said ello to earlier tonight in Brixton :o)

I noticed some nice new tarmac on Horseferry Road, which was nice. Very nice. And I discovered a new route from Kennington through to the Albert embankment, which was also nice. Well, it was new to me.

Turning out onto the Albert Embankment, though, I was almost run down by an idiot on a mountain bike who decided that red lights are for the mugs....I had him down as a lawyer or banker because of the f*** you sneer on his face as he shot through, and onto the the pavement to go under Lambeth bridge with complete contempt for the rest of the world.

Anyway, I have started keeping a straw poll. Who breaks more traffic regulations, cyclists or motorists. About evens so far, though I must admit motorcyclists seem rather better than the average road user. At least on my ride.

...I did the same, lost count with the motorists. I mean I really lost count, handfull of cyclist offences (about 25% of the cyclists ran reds or were on the pavement) but about 60% of drivers ran red, amber gambled, parked on pavements... speeded...

..could be a local thing obviously, but it seems that temptation is too great for a majority here at the moment.

As for road surfacing.. we had to wait nearly 20 years for Shirley Road in southampton to be resurfaced. Bursledon road had major resurfacing along it 2 weeks back and the road crews have already dug it up. Loads of bad roads are still waiting to be done - the government wont spend the money it seems

As the most expensive place to live 'sandbanks peninsular' it has the worst road surface. Doubt there is many complaints as most are 2nd 3rd or 4th homes.

One of my favourite countryside loops I do in my lunch hour at work was ruined by a 1.5 mile stretch of bad surface on a country lane, massive potholes and loose tarmac but rode it after a 7 week spell off the bike and they have resurfaced it so the Allez glides over that stretch and the average speed has gone from 13-14mph to 17-18 along that piece of road.

yes, i tihnk the worst too is just over the north side of Blackfrieres, across the crossroads on brow of hill, and up, plus doing the same part but on the other side of the road. Very bad.

Another nice piece, where i broke my speed record, is St Johns street up from old street, lovely piece
