Hi guys, I'm on the look out for a set of mud guards for my Cube, and I was interested in a set of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CRUD-Road...K_SportGoods_CyclAcces_RL&hash=item4861c93a64

However, I've just spotted a set for sale where the seller suggests that at least 1cm of clearance is required between the tyre and the bottom of the steerer tube/caliper.. I've just had a look at my bike and I'd say I've got around 5mm to play with at most.

Does anybody have any experience of fitting mudguards with such a small gap and if so any suggestions?

Many thanks!

Those should be fine for your bike, they are fiddly to fit and can need a lot of re-adjustment to get them spot on.

You are limited with such small clearance, I use SKS Raceblades with fit easier but don't give the coverage of the ones you link to.

They do Raceblade longs now too which give better coverage, still not as much as the Cruds but I think they are more sturdy.

The cruds fitted my Peloton with 23mm tyres very nicely, no rubbing, and after initial fitting faff, no main issues. With the Aksium/Aksion 25mm tyres on the next model there was enough rub on the front to really, really pee me off. I eventually cured it by letting 10psi out of the tyre, which shows just how critical the clearance is!

I will keep saying this until someone listens, somewhere...

PDW metal fenders. Throw your cruds and raceblades in the bin.

I bought some Crud raceblades last week - putting off putting them on as it's like a bloody airfix kit...

Stuck some cruds on last week. Watched some bloke on YouTube and then it took maybe half and hour. Really nice fit and my winter bike is now winter proofed.
