Hi, I have put a fixie up sor sale in the classifieds bit. £150 for a Subway Carrera- rrp £250. Had it less than a year. Might suit someone wanting to give singlespeeds/fixies a try without shelling out that much.

Have a look if you're interested... or if you just want to pass comment.

Looks OK for the money - did you try commuting with the freewheel instead of the fixed side?

I simply hadn't realised how much tougher hills are with it. It's fine for popping into town, and I used it a bit on holiday in France; 4 or 5 miles, but my commute is 15ish miles, and about 6 of them are climbing out of Leeds towards Otley, if anyone knows it. And about 6 on the way back are climbing out of Leeds towards Wakefield...

Hmm. I'm planning to do some commuting on a singlespeed, albeit with 700c rather than 26" wheels. I have a few climbs, too...

Yeah! ;)

I go the New Mills direction out of the village, though, so it's not too bad. A bit of a sharp climb at the Swizzle's factory, then it's mostly downhill.

Coming home up High Lane is a bit of a slog...

My tracker thingy says 246ft/833ft. so my route into work is comparable to your route home, but my route home is a doddle.
Bet I get more traffic lights though...
