Lubricant for skewers?

Hello,
I have just fitted some new wheels and the pictoral instructions indicated that I need to put some lubricant on the skewers but didn't explain what I should use. Is it just oil or something like lithium grease? Or nothing at all of course.

I usually apply a grease of some sort to prevent rust. Usually the springs on the end go rusty first due to being exposed to the elements so I grease those too.

Dip the threads in a pot of grease, poke 'em through, instal the back nut and wipe of the excess.

I've got a tube of lithium grease so will do something that creates the same effect - thanks
