Lycra Alternatives

I'm not particularly enamoured with cycle clothing and once upon a time I never wore it but it is comfortable and practical on the bike which is why I started but as some of my stuff is starting to disintegrate I decided to explore other options before I buy any new kit.

So what do you wear if you don't wear lycra, what's suitable, either stuff that is cycle clothing but doesn't look like it (probably too expensive for me but...) or alternatives that do the same job but aren't particularly cycling specific?

MTB shorts, tracksters, helly hansen baselayers, football tops (short and long sleeves, no team logos), running gilet, softshell walking fleece, berghaus paclite gortex jacket, Paramo Velez smock (favourite for winter).

Here for rides.
mtb shorts, mountain warehouse tops, cycle riding street kit from muxu and rapha which looks ok off the bike, merino cardigans/base layers - cycle specific cut but once tucked in who kows?, rohan bits n pieces, some craghopper stuff. ground effect and lab gear items

The longer and more intensively I intend to ride on road the more lycley I''ll wear lycra.

Usually a pair of altura ascent cycling trousers. Look just like a pair of black combat trousers with velcro straps on the bottom With padded shorts/tights/bib underneath.

Or when its sunny I wear a pair of decathlon 3/4 length running trousers.

Up top a compression top, then a synthetic ss T-shirt, or if it's about colder, then a long sleeve 'skiing' top from lidl, then a srs tee.

As above. (When I'm on the hybrid, anyway - full on lycra for the road bike.) So long as it's breathable, it works for me. Padded liner shorts are amazing. Ronhill tracksters in the winter; walking/trekking shorts in the summer. Downhill/MTB jerseys work well if you're not into football but want something that looks casual like a t-shirt without being cotton.
