Always liked the footage from their OGWT appearance.

One More From The Road, 2 CD version is a great way to hear a bunch of their stuff, recorded in 1976 so pre-crash band.

I always thought Steve Gaines, who died in that crash, would have been recognized as one of the greats given a few more years. He played on Street Survivors, where he also wrote a couple of the best songs and sang superb lead vocals on one track, and he played on One More For The Road where his playing is just sooo good.

His head was surrounded by fire on the album cover too...

I saw them at the Bristol Hippadrome late in 1977. I believe it was their last gig in the U.K. before the tragic plane crash. Fantastic band and very sad loss.

How did you manage to see them two years later (in 1979), did they reform?

Completely unrelated but one of those youtube led me to this, which I enjoyed. Freebird is a favourite on my bike, in one ear of course.

Blatant rip off of I'd rather go blind.

Agreed. His songwriting and singing was a revelation for the band. RVZ also said as much. You just have to listen to 'You Got That Right' from the album. A wonderful crafted song.

They also changed the cover removing the flames.

Yeah, just for one song!

Lynyrd Skynyrd disbanded after the tragedy, reuniting only on one occasion to perform an instrumental version of "Free Bird" at Charlie Daniels' Volunteer Jam V in January 1979. Collins, Rossington, Powell, and Pyle performed the song with Charlie Daniels and members of his band. Leon Wilkeson, who was still undergoing physical therapy for his badly broken left arm, was in attendance, along with Judy Van Zant, Teresa Gaines, JoJo Billingsley, and Leslie Hawkins.
