Macbook Air

Anyone got one or experience of them? My first venture into the Apple world of computers, really fed up with Microsoft plus I had XP so my present machine is just about chugging along, and I do mean just about.

Lack of inbuilt hard drive bothered me but that was when they first came out so may have solid state one by now?

I have a Macbook.
I used Macs in college and loved them so much that I changed my desktop to a 27" Mac, and my laptop to a Macbook Pro.
It took me a while to get used to using them, but it's been worthwhile and I wouldn't go back to a PC now.

I used to recommend Apple wholeheartedly - I had a G4 Powerbook followed by a MacBook Pro - both were sturdy, fast and reliable.

Apple now are not what they were - you are forced into updates all the time - for example my partner had to update iTunes to activate her iPhone, but she needed a newer version of iTunes than her OS would run. So she had a computer she had paid Apple for and a phone made by Apple, but they would not play along. Ridiculous. The value offered isn't there anymore.

I just have a bog-standard any-old laptop now and run Linux on it. It's fast, secure, reliable and cheap. I do still have an iMac, but it doesn't get used much.

Depends on which one

The 11 inch has USB ports, whilst the 13 inch has an SD Card reader as well, other specs are more or less similar

I Like the portability of the 11 inch and the increased capacity of the 13 inch


Personally I have used the 11 inch for travelling and general use for some years, it is reliable, pannier proof and extremely usable.

However that is my opinion.


To be honest find an Apple store and book a session. Then decide whether the lighter MacBook Air is worth the slight premium you pay for the compactness compared with a MacBook Pro at a similar price

I've had 2 17" Macbook Pros for the last 8 years or so [not good remembering time!] for working away from the office [+ a 27" iMac in the office] so drawing is easier... all have been fantastic but Apple for some odd reason have stopped making the 17" MB Pro... not happy!

I used to build my own PCs until I got a Macbook in 2011. Never again will I build a PC or entertain Windows.

We are a Mac house. My wife has the Air and I have the Macbook Pro. She loves her Macbook Air - excellent little computer, light and competent.

The great thing about Apple products is that integrate so well with each other. So if you get a MacBook you will find yourself wanting a iPhone and iPad, which is of course what they want.

Never bothered with an iPad, couldn't see the point when they came out, doubling up with a Macbook... but everyone I know, that's got one, loves it!

Ive had macs since the blue transparent iMac, several powerbooks and i now have ipads and a 27" imac. For personal use i wouldn't entertain any other. I have to use windows for work, the nice thing for me about using a different platform at home is the separation from work/home if that makes sense? low maintenance too, having said that a correctly administered and looked after windows computer shouldn't give any grief but who want to keep on top of computer maintenance?

That must have been a long time ago - you haven't needed iTunes to activate an iPhone for years now.

They're brilliant machines. Way faster than the spec would suggest, genuine all-day battery-life and a joy to use. I've recommended them to loads of people, and don't know anyone who hasn't been delighted with their purchase.

I've used Macs for well over 20 years now and wouldn't have anything else. As has been noted above, not only do they perform flawlessly but they integrate perfectly with each other. At present I have a Macbook Pro, Mac desktop and an iPad and they all work really well together. Highly recommended.
