Driver in hatchback pulls up to T- junction. Appears to want to turn right (at least he's not indicating left). Checks to his right (presumably) - there is nothing coming. We can also surmise that he checks to his left for any traffic on the other side of the main road, and would (maybe) see a cyclist (me) approaching, but he'd have had time to pull out in front of me as I was going slowly having just crested a hill on a bike heavily laden with shopping.

So he pulls out....

So far so normal...

Hatchback driver completely fails to see vehicle which has followed me uphill at a respectful distance, and now that the driver of this second vehicle has good visibility and no oncoming traffic, has pulled out to overtake me, moving right over into other lane and accelerating to get past me as efficiently as possible.

And just how noticeable was this second vehicle?

Big enough?

Perhaps he thought he could get out before you as the bus was stuck behind. And maybe the bus shouldn't have overtaken even a mere cyclist opposite a junction

That said, you were there, and I wasn't so this is just a thought rather than per se disagreeing
