I rode right around the Wirral coast line , up to Chester / Mickle Trafford /Kelsall up over old pale at Delamere , back thru kings wood , into Frodsham , ince / elesmere port and home all on a Birdy Bike , ( folding small wheel bike ) just over 72 miles . Bit slippy in the forest but enjoyable.

With toe clips..........turned into my drive at speed............toe clip jammed the front wheel and I shot over the bars. Ended up hanging over the garden fence with the bike on the other side and me still clipped in. Fortunately nothing damaged apart from my pride but I still remember every mili second of it.

Not sure where the madness lies in this story. Is it the terrain? I don't know the area.

Doing long rides on small wheel bikes is pretty common, Bromptons regularly do 1000km + audaxes, and I've done the Dunwich Dynamo (>>100 miles) on my 16" wheeled mezzo.

Edit: using the mezzo on the DD was less mad than those on the station with full sized bikes, because unlike all but one of them, I was allowed to board the train.

Well I once found myself riding up a Motorway. My mate who spotted my mistake came after me. He was the one escorted off by the cops.

Also on another occasion I deliberately rode up the wrong side of the Motorway in the "fast" lane. (On this occasion the Motorway hadn't yet been opened)

Too many to recall, but once when I was about 18, entered a 25 on the fast 02 course in the Doncaster area. I was then living on Merseyside, so on the Saturday, rode over and stayed in the Youth Hostel. Rode the 25 and did a mediocre time, then rode home!

Ha ha don't take it too literal , Delamere forest was hard on the bike .

Went down allypally on a 15kg halfords bought mtb, was thrown over the handlebars on the way down but landed on my feet. Had the wind knocked out of me but i was still in motion and falling backwards so i did an emergency tumble by falling onto my left knee before rolling into a ball and doing a barrel roll across the tarmac to help dissipate the energy from the speed of coming down the hill.

Smashed my knee and wrist up a little but i was able to limp the rest of the way home. There is 'falling' then theres knowing 'how to fall'

Here's another from back in the 80's.

I used to have one of those Sanyo speedometers on my racer that ran off a cable connected to a small wheel on a spring loaded bracket that ran against the front tyre (similar idea to a dynamo). The speedo went up to 50mph, although looking back I somehow doubt it was entirely accurate.

The trouble was at anything above an indicated 25mph, the little wheel had a tendency to skip and jump about, meaning the needle never gave a steady reading.

So I decided to cycle down the steepest local hill, which just happened to be a dual carriageway, pedalling as quickly as I could in the highest of my 12-speeds with one hand on the drops, the hand other reaching down the front fork holding the small wheel in place against the tyre, while looking at the speedo rather than the road ahead...

I'm pleased to report that somehow I survived unscathed and, perhaps more importantly, managed to get the speedo needle off the clock. :okay:
